Box Score

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Highlanders and Bulldogs clashed tonight at the UCR Soccer Stadium in Pac-12 action with both teams looking for their first conference win of the year. On two goals in the first, the Highlanders secured the all important win, 2-1. It was the first win for UCR since September when they topped Air Force 2-1 in Colorado. It was also the first Pac-12 win for UCR in school history.

Eric Martinez scored in the 15' off a beautiful set up by Jackson D'Alessandro and Tarek Hamideh. It was the second straight match that the Highlanders scored first. Then in the 29' UC Riverside struck again as Hamideh buried his fourth of the year off assists by D'Alessandro and Yashir Mimosa.

Martinez's goal was his third of the season and Hamideh recorded his fourth goal. Both D'Alessandro and Hamideh recorded a multi-point match and it was the third time this season that a Highlander recorded multiple points in a match. Adrian Diaz last accomplished that in the 2-2 draw against UC San Diego earlier this month.

UCR recorded seven shots in the first and looked to be in control of the possession for the first half and held Gonzaga to four shots.

Early in the second (49') Giacarlo Sagredo was tested and came up with a save off the foot of Michael Luande. The Bulldogs followed up with a shot a couple of minutes later that was off target. Gonzaga came out a bit more aggressive in the half.

In the 58' the Bulldogs' Sam Dahlin put Gonzaga on the board with this second of the year. It came off a pass by Dylan Cantafio.

Gonzaga kept the pressure up but the Highlanders held firm. While the Bulldogs recorded two shots in the final ten minutes of the match they were not a threat and UCR prevailed.

With the win the Highlanders remain in the mix for a Pac-12 Tournament berth as their next conference match up comes next Saturday when San Diego State comes to the IE. The next match for UCR is set for Wednesday at 10:30 am as the Highlanders take on Cal State Bakersfield on the road.
