Cal Poly Scores Early, Holds On For 1-0 Men's Soccer Win Over UCR

Cal Poly picked up a goal in the first period and held for a 1-0 win over UC Riverside (1-12-0, 0-5-0) Saturday evening at the UCR Soccer Stadium. The victory helped the Mustangs stay ahead of Cal State Fullerton for second place in the Big West.
Ryan Anderson scored for the Mustangs in the 18th minutes of play taking a pass from David Zamora and slotting it past UC Riverside keeper Cody Suppé as Cal Poly outshot the Highlanders 8-3 in the first.
Joe O'Connor (pictured) had the Highlanders' best look at the net in the second half as the Highlanders pressed for the tying goal. With 11:48 remaining in the contest Cesar Diaz's drilled a cross through the Mustangs box. O'Connor raced towards the goal and was able to slide into the ball, but his left-footed effort sailed high of the mark.
The Highlanders remain at home this week for a Wednesday, October 21 meeting with Cal State Fullerton. Kickoff is set for 7 pm PT.
