Men's Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision At Cal Poly Wednesday

The Cal Poly Mustangs (8-8-1, 6-2-0) scored 2 minutes and 36 seconds into the match and sandwiched two more goals around the half to take a 3-0 men's soccer win over the Highlanders Wednesday evening. Cal Poly outshot UC Riverside by the thinnest of margins, 12-11, with Cesar Diaz's (pictured) two shots pacing the Highlanders (1-13-1, 0-6-1) on the night.
The win helps the Mustangs remain a half game behind UC Santa Barbara in the race for first place and the number one seed in the Big West Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.
Tim White got Cal Poly on the board in the first when he headed a David Zamora cross past UC Riverside keeper Cody Suppé. Ryan Schmitz took over in goal in the 37th minute, and with 1:53 remaining before the half, Chris Gaschen made it 2-0 Cal Poly with his first goal of the season.
Gaschen picked up his second goal of the match with 7:12 gone in the second after picking up a loose ball on a defensive miscue.
UC Riverside remains on the road this weekend as the travel to Cal State Fullerton on Saturday for a 3 pm meeting with the Titans.
