Northern Arizona 68 UC Riverside 56 Box Score
Northern Arizona (3-5) used an 18-6 run late in the first half to take a double digit lead and maintained that advantage the rest of the way as the Highlanders (5-3) five-game winning streak came to an end in Flagstaff Sunday evening. Rudy Meo (pictured) led UCR with 16 on the night.
Both teams opened the game sluggishly settling for jumpers, and the score was 18-16 Northern Arizona following a Dwight Gordon deuce with 7:52 to go in the first. The Highlanders managed just six points the rest of the period, however, as the Lumberjacks went on an 18-6 run to close out the half and take a 36-22 lead into the locker room.
Cameron Jones led all scorers in the first with 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting from the field. DeAngelo Jones added eight for the Lumberjacks while Rudy Meo came off the bench to lead the Highlanders with six in the period. As a team, UCR managed to make just 6 of 19 from the field while NAU was 14 of 27.
Despite connecting on 54.5 percent of their field goals (12-22) in the final 20 minutes of play, UCR was never able to reduce the Lumberjacks lead to single digits.
Northern Arizona held Kyle Austin, UCR's leading scorer entering the game, to just 8 points and 5 shots. while second- leading scorer, Larry Gurganious, took just 5 shots on the night scoring 5 points.
Cameron and DeAngelo Jones were the high scorers for the Lumberjacks scoring 17 points each.
The Highlanders return home for a Wednesday, December 16 meeting with Berry College. Tip is scheduled for 7 pm PT and fans can listen to all the action as The Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings the call to gohighlanders.com.
