Highlanders Extend Winning Streak to 10 Straight With 62-41 Victory Over CSUN

Riverside, CA - Led by Kemie Nkele¹s (San Diego, CA) game-high 23 points, the UC Riverside women¹s basketball team extended their win streak to 10 consecutive games with a 62-41 victory over Cal State Northridge (5-18, 2-8) in Big West Conference action on Saturday evening at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside. This win ties the all-time UCR record of 10 consecutive winning games, and improves the Highlanders record to 15-9 and 10-1 in conference play.
UCR got out of the gate a bit sluggish as they were held without a bucket until the 16:23 mark, but quickly regrouped as they rallied for nine consecutive points to take a 9-2 lead with 14:44 remaining in the half. The Matadors, though, countered with an 8-2 run as they closed to gap to one, 11-10, just two and a half minutes later.
The Highlanders then used a 14-0 run to take a 25-10 lead at the 8:24 mark as they went into the locker rooms up 34-20. UCR shot 50.0 percent (14-28) from the field and 40.0 percent (4-10) from beyond the arc as CSUN was limited to just 22.6 percent (7-31) from the floor.
In the second half the Highlanders opened up their biggest lead of the game, 50-22, off a Chanel Foster (Tustin, CA) free throw at the 8:00 minute mark. Cal State Northridge made a small rally towards the end of the game as they closed the margin to 14 points, 55-41, with 3:21 remaining, but the Highlanders scored seven straight points to close out the contest.
Nkele led all scores with 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting including 2-of-4 from three-point land and 7-of-9 from the strike. She also collected a game-high 8 rebounds. Jessie Schmuckal (Chula Vista, CA) added 10 points for the Highlanders.
