Men's Basketball Honors Class of 2009 - Aaron Scott & Christian Soto
2/24/2009 5:56:41 PM | Men's Basketball
UC Riverside's Men's Basketball Team will honor its Class of 2009 on Thursday evening prior to tip off against Cal State Fullerton as Christian Soto and Aaron Scott take to the floor at the Student Recreation Center for the final time. The presentation begins promptly at 6:45 pm with tip off slated for 7:00 pm.
AARON SCOTT
In two seasons at UC Riverside, Aaron Scott posted a rebound average of just over six boards per game – the second highest average in the Division I history of the program. His career field goal percentage of 50.9 percent also ranks second on the Highlanders’ Division I charts.
On February 11 of this year, Scott scored a career-high 26 points in UCR’s double overtime win over Long Beach State. Earlier in the season, the Oakland, California native grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds in the Highlanders’ win over Northern Arizona.
This year, Scott, a psychology major, ranks fifth in the Big West in rebounding, sixth in steals, second in offensive rebounding and ninth in defensive boards. He is one of the primary reasons why the Highlanders pace the conference in rebound margin.
CHRISTIAN SOTO
Only one player in the history of the program has laced up his high tops more frequently than Christian Ariel Soto Torres as Thursday marks his 114th game played for the Highlanders.
By season’s end, Soto will be a member of UCR’s 500-500 club surpassing both figures in career scoring and rebounding, and his career rebound totals will be the second highest in the Division I history of the program.
The Caguas, Puerto Rico native will also be listed among the top 10 career steals and blocked shots leaders in Highlanders’ history.
At the conclusion of the 2007-08 regular season, Soto, a theater major, was honored by the Big West as its Co-Hustle Player of the Year, and he is a potential nominee for the award again for 2008-09
