UC Riverside 5, San Fransisco 4 - Box Score
Riverside, CA – The UC Riverside baseball team (4-2) needed 13 innings to get the job done, but at the end of the night the Highlanders pulled out a 5-4 win over visiting San Francisco on Friday evening. It was the second of a four-game series with the Dons at the Riverside Sports Complex. Game three is scheduled for Saturday at 2 pm.
Down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, UCR's Brian McConkey doubled to left field and was replaced by pinch runner Brandon Schnebly. Carl Uhl then drilled an RBI double to center scoring Schnebly and sending the game into extra innings.
After three scoreless frames, Ryan Goetz singled to right with one out in the 13th and stole second to give the Highlanders a runner in scoring position with two outs. Tony Nix then drove home the go-ahead run, giving UCR the 5-4 victory.
Kevin Dickey (1-1) picked up the win for the Highlanders throwing a scoreless 13th, while Matt Hiserman (0-1) took the loss for the Dons after throwing 5.2 innings of relief.
In the early going it looked like it might be a long night for the Highlanders who scored a single run in the first, but found themselves trailing 3-1 through the seventh inning stretch. UCR scratched together single runs in the seven and eighth to tie things up, but San Francisco touched Highlander relievers Dustin Emmons and Joseph Kelly for one run in the top of the ninth setting up Uhl's heroics in the bottom half of the frame.
