Fullerton, CA - After splitting a pair of games on the first day of the DeMarini Invitational in Fullerton yesterday afternoon, the UC Riverside softball team looked to pick up another win on day two of the tournament. Facing No. 5 Stanford to begin the day, the Highlanders could only plate one run as the Cardinals proved their national ranking by defeating UCR 14-1 in five innings. In the second game of the day, UCR fell 3-0 to Minnesota.
In the first game of the day, the Cardinals (16-1) touched UCR starter Stephanie Marshall for three runs in the first inning and one in the third. Amy Lwin came in for relief but allowed five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.
The Highlanders got a run across in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Brittany Keeney's sacrifice fly to center field scored Kameryn Hebenton from third.
Stanford is the fourth ranked opponent the Highlanders have played so far in this young season. The 14 runs allowed by UCR is also the most allowed all year.
In the Highlanders second game of the day, Marissa Alvidrez pitched all seven innings but allowed three runs to score in the top of the sixth. UCR could not get a run across as the Highlanders (3-12) fell to the Gophers (9-10).
