9/24/2009 6:11:04 PM | Men's Soccer
#20 Loyola Marymount 1, UC Riverside 0
The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team went toe to toe with the 20th ranked team in the nation Thursday afternoon, but the Highlanders were forced to play down a man for the final 31 minutes, and Chris Bernardio's goal for LMU with 3:51 remaining proved to be the game-winner. Code Suppé (pictured) faced 14 shots on the day in goal for UCR.
Both teams recorded six shots in the first half, but none found their mark as the teams went into halftime scoreless. The game got more physical in the second period with the issuance of six yellow cards including two to the Highlanders' (1-6-0) Alexander Racca with a 32 second time span just under 14 minutes into the half.
The Lions (5-2-0) outshot UC Riverside 6-2 following Racca's departure finally breaking through when passes from Artur Jozkowicz and Vincent Ocampo found Bernardi on a counter attack with under four to play.
The Highlanders return home next Wednesday, September 30 for their Big West Conference opener against Cal State Northridge at 7:00 pm.
