The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team, coming off of a 1-0 season-opening loss at Sacramento State, remains on the road this weekend traveling to Moraga, CA where they will face off Sunday against Saint Mary's at 3 p.m. PT. It is the first meeting between the teams. Cody Suppé (pictured) picked up his first collegiate start in goal in the season-opener.
GAME NOTES
THE REPLACEMENTS
The Highlanders, who scored 22 goals during the 2008 season, will need to replace the offensive production of their leading scorer from a year ago, Joel Crompton (8 goals, 1 assist, 17 points) who finished his UCR career ranked tied for second in career points and fourth in goals scored. Eight other Highlanders dented the back of the net in 2008 led by Cesar Diaz's four goals, Robert Cate's three and Nathan Paterson's two.
20-20
Last year goalkeeper Ryan Schmitz and defender David Watson were the only two members of the team to play and start in all 20 matches.
NATHAN'S FAMOUS
Nathan Paterson enters the 2009 season ranked fifth on the UCR career points list and needs just seven on the year to move into second place behind Luc Harrington (2001-04).
FIRING BLANKS
UCR's 1-0 shutout loss at Sacramento State marked the first time the Highlanders have been shut out since October 8, 2008 against Cal Poly (1-0).
