UC Riverside at UC Irvine Game Notes
The Highlanders are looking to snap a five-game losing streak Saturday as they travel to UC Irvine for the last in a stretch of four consecutive road games. They will also be battling recent history, as they haven’t won on the Anteaters home floor since February 8, 1977—a span of nine games. Tip time is 8 pm PT,. UCR fans who are unable to attend may watch the game live on FSN PrimeTicket and listen to all the action as The Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings the call to gohighlanders.com.
The road has not been kind to UC Riverside this season as they are 1-9 in away games but 6-2 at the Student Recreation Center. The team’s last road win came in a 59-58 decision at Sacramento State on November 29, 2009.
UC Irvine won both games a year ago upending the Highlanders, 78-72, at the Bren Center on February 28, 2009 and, 71-66, at the SRC on January 29, 2009. Kyle Austin (pictured) scored 24 and 21 points respectively in those games, and leads UCR in scoring again this season averaging 16.8 points per game and 20.0 points in conference play.
The Anteaters come into today’s game having just snapped a three-game skid with a 71-60 home win over Long Beach State. Irvine’s leading scorer at 16.2 points per game, Eric Wise, led four Anteaters in double figure scoring against the Beach with 20 points.
