UC Riverside vs. UC Santa Barbara Game Notes
With the excitement of Saturday’s 69-67 overtime win over Long Beach State still resonating through the Student Recreation Center, the Highlanders welcome UC Santa Barbara to campus Monday evening for the second Big West game of the season for both teams. Tip is scheduled for 7 pm PT, and UCR fans can listen to all the action as The Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings the call to gohighlanders.com.
Larry Gurganious’ reverse layup with 1.3 seconds remaining in overtime Saturday proved to be the difference as UC Riverside ended a three-game losing skid and ran its home winning streak to 10 straight games dating back to the 2008-09 season. It was Gurganious’ second game-winning shot of the season as he drained a jumper at Sacramento State on November 28 to give UCR a 59-58 win over the Hornets.
The Highlanders and Gauchos split their two meetings a year ago with each team winning on its home floor. UCR’s win over UCSB last season was the first for the Highlanders in the series since January 1, 2006.
UC Santa Barbara boasts two players in double figures led by Orlando Johnson’s 16.8 points per game. The Gauchos dropped their conference opener Saturday at UC Irvine, 57-55.
