Simpson's 10 Kills Not Enough As Aggies Sweep UCR Volleyball

Davis, CA - The UC Riverside volleyball team concluded its northern California roadswing on Saturday evening with a 3-0 loss to UC Davis at Hickey Gym in Big West Conference Action.
Kelly Simpson led the Highlanders (2-21, 0-9) with 10 kills while Amanda Vialpando had 11 digs. Allison Whitson tallied 11 kills to lead UC Davis (15-7, 6-3).
To open the match, both teams traded points early on until the Aggies turned a 9-7 lead into a 15-7 advantage. The Highlandes then scored four straight to cut the lead to four, 15-11, but UCD responded with seven consecutive points as they went on to win 25-16.
In the second set, the Aggies opened a 6-1 lead and limited the Highlanders to just two points down the stretch as they won 25-11.
UC Davis led 15-7 in the third set, but UCR capitalized on five Aggie errors to get to within two, 15-13. The Highlanders stayed withith 3-4 points until the 21-17 mark, but were shutout the rest of the set as UCD scored the four points needed to win the match 25-17.
UC Riverside takes a break from league play as they travel to San Diego State on Tuesday, Oct. 26 for a 7:00 pm match in San Diego, CA.
