UC Riverside at San Jose State Game Notes (Coming Soon)
San Jose, CA—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team has the week off for Thanksgiving, but returns to action on Sunday, November 28 at San Jose State. Tip time is 2 pm PT, and fans who are unable to attend may listen to Sam Farber bring the call from courtside to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's GameCentral.
UCR’s Phil Martin has emerged as a go-to scorer early in the season posting three consecutive double-digit scoring performances at the SMU Invitational including a career-high 29-point effort on 11-of-12 shooting from the field in the Highlanders 73-69 OT win over the host Mustangs. The Staten Island, NY native was named to the SMU Invitational All-Tournament Team for his efforts.
Javon Borum has found his stroke after struggling through the team’s first three games. After opening the year by making just 3 of 30 shots from the field, he is 10 for his last 19 including 3 of 7 from three-point range while averaging 12.5 points per game over that span.
The Spartans started the season 3-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season, and included in that stretch is the team's first win over a Pac-10 team—a 75-72 win over Oregon on November 20—since a 1992 win over Stanford. San Jose State owns a 3-2 record all-time over the Highlanders, but UCR has won the past two meetings including last season’s 70-66 home win.
