UC Riverside 82, UTSA 75 - Box Score
Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team (3-4) had three players in double figures Thursday evening breaking open a tight game in the second half and taking an 82-75 win over visiting UT San Antonio (4-2).
UCR led by two at the break, but quickly opened up an 11-point lead scoring 13 of the first 17 points of the period. Phil Martin had seven points in the run and accounted for 14 of his game-high 22 points in the second 20 minutes of play.
UTSA made a late run in the final minutes of play to get within two possessions, but the Highlanders held on for the 82-75 victory.
After trading baskets early, each team put together two significant runs in the first with UC Riverside leading by as many as eight points on four occasions. Each time they threatened to push the lead to double digits, though, the Roadrunners countered, including a final 8-2 run that closed an eight-point gap to two as the teams went into the locker room.
Javon Borum had the hot hand early for the Highlanders scoring 16 of the team's 40 first-half points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field including 3 of 4 from three-point range.
Borum and Martin led UCR with 22 points apiece with Kareem Nitoto adding 19, while Tyquan Brown grabbed a game-high 11 boards for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders are off for a week for finals, returning to action with a pair of road games on December 12 (Stanford) and 14 (Saint Mary's).
