UC Riverside at Cal State Fullerton Game Notes
Six games remain in the Big West regular season as teams jockey for tournament seeding throughout February. The Highlanders currently trail eighth place UC Irvine by one game, but UCR currently owns the tiebreaker with the Anteaters having beaten them 65-56 on UCI’s home court on January 23. Ony the top eight teams in the conference advance to the Big West Tournament in Anaheim, March 10-13.
The Highlanders travel to Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, February 6 as they attempt to move past the Anteaters in the standings. Tip time is 6 pm PT, and UCR fans who are unable to attend may listen to all the action as The Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings the call to gohighlanders.com.
The Titans, however, have been on a roll of late winning their last three games including an 81-75 overtime win that moved them into a three-way tie for third place in the conference. Aaron Thompson scored 23 points for CSF in the win, including 10 in the overtime period as the Titans improved to 11-10 overall and 5-4 in conference.
UC Riverside is coming off a 63-47 loss to Cal State Northridge on Thursday evening. Kyle Austin led the Highlanders with 18 points on the night and Larry Gurganious recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for UCR to avoid its third straight loss.
The Titans already have one win over the Highlanders this year—a 69-56 victory at the Student Recreation Center. Austin scored 17 for UCR in the loss while Sean Cunningham added a season-high 18 points.
