UC Riverside vs. Cal Poly Game Notes
Riverside—Big West Conference Baseball competition gets underway this Thursday as the Highlanders host the first game of a three-game series with the Cal Poly Mustangs. First pitch for the April Fools Day opener is at 6 pm PT at the Riverside Sports Complex. Fans who are unable to attend may listen to all the action as the Voice of the Highlanders, Ghizal Hasan, brings the call to gohighlanders.com.
Matt Andriese (2-2, 6.27) gets the start for the Highlanders on Thursday followed by Dustin Emmons (4-1, 2.87) on Friday at 6 pm and Matt Larkins (2-2, 5.06) on Saturday at 1 pm.
The Highlanders are on a three-game winning streak entering the Cal Poly series having taken the final three games in a four-game set with Saint Mary's over the weekend. Emmons started the winning streak throwing a complete-game 1-0 shutout on Saturday against the Gaels—just the third complete-game 1-0 victory in UC Riverside's Division I history.
The Mustangs enter the week with a 7-16 record having lost 10 of their last 11 games—a far cry from the 2009 season which saw them finish with a 37-21 mark and receive an NCAA Tournament berth. Cal Poly was predicted to finish third in the conference based on a poll of Big West coaches conducted prior to the start of the season.
