49ers Spoil Senior Night For Women's Basketball, 70-61

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside women's basketball team used a second half rally to get within one point of Long Beach State down the stretch, but it wasn't enough as the 49ers spoiled the Highlanders senior night on Saturday with a 70-61 win at the Student Recreation Center. UCR drops to 14-15 overall and 11-5 in Big West play, while LBSU improves to 13-16, 9-7.
Long Beach State jumped out of the gates early in the first half, leading 9-1 three minutes in, and pushing their advantage to double-figures, 15-4, at the 14:15 mark.
The Highlanders then went on a 9-2 run to cut the margin to four, 17-13, capped off by an Alyssa Morris jumper with 9:04 to go. The 49ers countered by pushing the lead back out to double-digits, the largest at 31-15 with 4:46 remaining in the half, as they would head into the break leading 38-25.
LBSU kept their double-digit lead through 12 minutes of play in the second half, but the Highlanders went on an 8-0 run to cut the advantage to just one point, 59-58, with just under four minutes remaining.
The 49ers then hit two straight three-pointers to push the lead back to seven, and UCR could not get closer than four as Long Beach out scored UCR 11-3 in the closing minutes.
Rheya Neabors led the Highlanders with 17 points while Alyssa Morris added 16. Melanie Lisnock led Long Beach State with a game-high 21 points, while Karina Figueroa had 17 and Lauren Sims added 16.
The 49ers shot 49.0 percent from the field while holding the Highlanders to 38.8 percent shooting. LBSU also forced 21 UCR turnovers.
