UC Riverside at No. 10 UCLA Game Notes
The UC Riverside Baseball team (7-4) has one regulation game left before taking a break for Finals as they travel to No. 10 UCLA on Tuesday evening. First pitch is slated for 6 pm PT, and those of you who are unable to make the trip can listen to The Voice of the Highlanders, Ghizal Hasan, bring the call from Jackie Robinson Stadium directly to your computer via gohighlanders.com.
Freshman Trevor Frank (2-0, 3.75) gets the start for UCR as he shoots for his third win of the season. The El Cajon, CA native (pictured) is already the first member of the Highlanders to win his first two starts as a freshman during the Division I-era, but he will have his work cut out for him against the Bruins.
This UCLA squad (9-0) is a far cry from the team that UCR beat 17-6 and 11-1 a year ago as they boast a .379 batting average to go along with a .618 slugging percentage and are averaging just under 10 runs per game. They also have a team ERA of 2.00 while holding opponents to a .193 batting average on the season.
Garett Claypool (1-0, 1.00) will be on the hill for UCLA. The senior right-hander has made three appearances on the season, and in his lone start of the year, he threw seven innings in a 10-1 win over Long Beach State, scattering five hits while striking out four.
On Wednesday, March 10, the Highlanders will play an exhibition game at the Riverside Sports Complex against the Waseda University, a private Japanese university located in Tokyo. First pitch is slated for 3 pm PT, and there is no cost to attend.
