Box Score - UC Riverside 1, Biola 0
Riverside, CA - Cesar Diaz netted the game-winner for the UC Riverside men's soccer team (2-3) at the 65:53 mark on Monday evening in a 1-0 victory over visiting Biola (1-4) at the UCR Soccer Stadium. (Watch Highlights Of The Match)
Alex Racca got the goal sequence started with a corner kick that was deflected across the field by the Eagle's keeper. Arnie Sanchez sent the ball back into the box where Aaron Long headed it towards the goal, and Diaz redirected it past the Biole defense for the lone score of the night.
The Highlanders outshot Biola by a slim 15-13 margin, but had five shots on goal compared to two for the Eagles.
Biola made a late charge by taking three shots within a minute span with about 10 minutes left, but the UCR defense held on tight for the win.
"I think we made some adjustments at half time. It was pretty tight in the first half: we created a few opportunities to score which we didn't convert. It made it tough for us later in the game," Head Coach Junior Gonzalez explained. "We did end up scoring off a restart. It was good to get another win under our belts."
UC Riverside next hits the field to host Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 7 pm at the UCR Soccer Stadium.
