Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw With Visiting Cal State Fullerton

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team was looking to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the Big West field Wedensday evening with a win over visiting Cal State Fullerton, but they had to settle for a 1-1 tie. (Box Score)
Cal State Northridge's match againt UC Irvine also ended in a tie, so the Highlanders were able to hold on to third place in the conference standings.
The Titans got on the board first when Oscar Aguero corralled a UCR defensive miscue in the 32nd minute of play and scored from 20 yards out. Fullerton outshot the Highlanders 11-3 in the period forcing UC Riverside to make some adjustments at halftime.
Whatever buttons Head Coach Junior Gonzalez pushed during the break seemed to do the trick as the Highlanders outshot Fullerton 17-12 ion the second half and the two overtime periods.
Cesar Diaz Pizarro tied the match with 19:57 gone in the second period when Ivan Garcia stole the ball in the Titans defensive end and sent a cross to the right side of the box. Diaz Pizarro beat CSF keeper Trevor Whiddon for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
The Highlanders continued to press throughout the second period and the overtime stanzas, and had a number of opportunities to net the game-winner, but couldn't dent the back of the net.
Next up for UC Riverside is a Saturday, October 29 trip to UC Irvine. Kick off is slated for 7 pm PT.
