A Win And We're In As Women's Soccer Tops Cal State Northridge, 3-1

Riverside—Win and we're in!
At least that's what it looks like to us following the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team's 3-1 victory Thursday evening over Cal State Northridge. (Box Score)
A UCR win over UC Irvine on Sunday would give the Highlanders 13 points and guarantee a tie with Cal State Northridge. A number of tiebreaker scenarios could play out involving UCR, CSUN, UC Davis and Pacific, but in every one the Highlanders would advance to the Big West Conferece postseason a one of the top four teams.
The win over the Matadors Thursday didn't come easy, as the Highlanders fell behind 1-0 in just the eighth minute of play as Melissa Fernandez drove down the field for an un assisted goal. Kristy Adcock knotted the score just over two minutes later on a free kick from 35 yards out, and Shelley Brumbaugh's goal in the 11th minute put the Highlanders up for good.
UC Riverside's third goal came on a Northridge own goal. Adcock sent a free kick into the box and Alex Quincey headed it towards the goal. Matadors defender Stephanie Norton accidentally redirected it into the CSUN net for a 3-1 Highlanders lead.
In all, 10 cards were handed out on the evening with the Matadors head coach getting ejected midway through the second period.
The Highlanders match Sunday at UC Irvine is scheduled for 2 pm PT.
