Neabors Scores 19 Points As Women's Hoops Wins 77-48 At CSUN

Northridge, CA - The UC Riverside women's basketball team used an 11-0 run in the first half and applied the defensive pressure in the second half to defeat the Cal State Northridge Matadors 77-48 on Thursday evening in Big West Conference action.
The Highlanders improve to 12-9 overall and 5-3 in league play, while the Matadors drop to 1-21 and 1-8.
Rhaya Neabors scored 19 points on 7-13 shooting including 3-5 from beyond the arc, leading four players in double figures for UCR. Brittany Waddell added 15 points while Alyssa Morris and Tre'Shonti Nottingham had 10 points each.
UC Riverside began the game hitting 7 of its first 10 shots but led just 20-18 midway through the half.
A Natasha Hadley jumper with 8:53 left jump-started a Highlanders rally as they scored 11 straight over the next four minutes to take a 31-18 lead. The Matadors turned the ball over three times during UCR's run, and were held scoreless until the 1:54 mark.
UC Riverside entered the break up 34-23, hitting 46.4 percent of its shots.
Up 43-31 with three and a half minutes gone by in the second half, UCR applied the defensive pressure and forced three Matadors turnovers in 30 seconds resulting in three quick Highlanders buckets.
Two Neabors three-pointers sandwiched around a CSUN layup gave UC Riverside its largest margin of the game up to that point, 55-35, with 12:30 remaining. The Highlanders would eventually push their lead above 30, outscoring the Matadors 43-25 in the second half.
UCR forced 26 Matador turnovers over the course of the game, scoring 31 points off the miscues.
The Highlanders return home to the Student Recreation Center this Saturday, February 5 for a 5 pm tip against Cal State Fullerton.
