UC Riverside vs. UC Santa Barbara Game Notes
Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team has put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season following victories over Cal State Northridge and Cal State Fullerton, and they are looking to make it three in a row this Thursday with a 7 pm PT meeting with UC Santa Barbara at the Student Rec Center.
Fans who are unable to attend the game can listen to the Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, bring the call of the action to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's Game Central and to KPRO 1570 AM.
A win over the Gauchos would be the third straight Big West Conference win for UCR which would tie a program record set during the 2008-09 season.
UCSB has been one of the most difficult teams for the Highlanders to beat over the years as UCR has just five wins in 28 games against the Gauchos. UCR is 0-16 on the road against UC Santa Barbara, but a more respectable 5-6 at home.
The Gauchos enter Thursday’s game coming off of an emotional 93-86 overtime win against UC Davis on Saturday as Orlando Johnson tied the school record for points in a game with 39. James Nunnally added 23 in the win as the pair continues to rank first and second respectively in the Big West in scoring.
UC Riverside’s Phil Martin was honored this Monday as the Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week as the junior guard averaged 24.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in the Highlanders pair of Big West wins, connecting on 47.2 percent of his field goal attempts, 62.5 percent of his three-pointers and all 10 of his free throw attempts. Those performances increased Martin’s scoring average to 14.05 which is .05 ahead of teammate Javon Borum.
