The UC Riverside Athletics Department hosted its 2010-11 Highlanders Awards Celebration on Sunday evening at Hub 302 on UCR's campus, honoring the achievements of the 2010-11 Highlanders student-athletes. Baseball senior Trevor Hairgrove won the UCR Male Student-Athlete of the Year award.
A four-year starter at shortop for the Highlanders, Hairgrove saved his best season for last. He leads the squad with a .337 batting average while ranking second in on base percentage, slugging percentage, runs scored, doubles and RBIs.
Entering the weekend, Hairgrove ranked 10th in the conference in batting average, fifth in base hits, fourth in doubles and eighth in total bases. In the field, the Highland, CA native leads the entire conference in assists with 152, and has turned the fifth most double plays.
Midway through the year, Hairgrove was named Big West Conference player of the week, College Baseball Insider West Region Player of the Week and College Baseball 360 Primetime Performer.
Although conference awards will not be doled out in baseball yet for another week, Hairgrove will no doubt be adding to his collection of hardware when that announcement is made.
