San Jose State's Late Goal Forces 1-1 Tie With Men's Soccer

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team ran its program-record home unbeaten streak to five matches over the weekend following a 1-1 tie with San Jose State Sunday afternoon. (Box Score)
The Highlanders got on the board early as Alfonso Ayala and Ivan Garcia combined to find Ben Sperber alone in the Spartans box in the fifth minute of play. Sperber's header beat San Jose State keeper Jonathan Lester to the right side of the goal, and UC Riverside led 1-0.
That score held up through the majority of the second half despite the Spartans outshooting the Highlanders in the period 16-4. But SJSU finally broke through with the equalizer with just 1:32 remaining in regulation when Nick Cashmere slotted a shot from five yards out past Cody Suppé to knot the match at one apiece
Neither team was able to dent the back of the net in the extra periods, and the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Highlanders hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches in Jacksonville, Florida: North Florida on Friday, September 23 at 4 pm PT, and Jacksonville on Sunday, September 25 at 11 am.
