Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team looks to extend what is already a program-best four-game Big West Conference winning streak this Wednesday as they travel to Cal State Fullerton for a 7 pm PT tip against the Titans.
The Highlanders extended their winning streak this past week with home victories over UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly thanks in large part to a second-straight, conference-player-of-the-week performance from senior Phil Martin. The Staten Island, NY native averaged 23.0 points and 7.0 rebounds on the week including a 33-point, 11-rebound effort vs. UCSB.
UC Riverside’s 4-1 start to the conference season is the best Big West start in the team’s history, and the Highlanders’ 10-8 overall mark is their second best since making the move to Division I.
Cal State Fullerton has lost three straight entering Wednesday’s game, including two in conference at UCSB and Cal Poly. That follows a seven-game winning streak which included victories over Eastern Washington and Utah, and conference foes UC Davis and Pacific.
The Titans are averaging a league-best 77.3 points per game. D.J. Seeley leads Fullerton with a 15.1 points per game scoring average followed closely by Kwame Vaughn’s 14.7. Isiak Umipig (13.6) and Omondi Amoke (11.8) are also averaging in double figures for the Titans.
The Highlanders are 17-21 all-time against Cal State Fullerton, but have won two of the last three meeting between the clubs including a 70-69 victory at Fullerton on February 5, 2011. Kevin Bradshaw’s dunk with three seconds remaining gave UCR the win.
