Stockton, CA—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team has won three of its last four games heading into Saturday’s road tilt at Pacific, including a 60-58 victory at UC Davis, Thursday. That win improved the Highlanders record to 7-8, which is the program’s second-best start through 15 games in it’s Division I history.
Phil Martin led UCR with 24 points, including 16 of the team’s 33 in the second half, against the Aggies, and the senior paces the Highlanders offense with 16.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
UC Riverside’s defense has been a key factor in the Highlanders’ recent success as opponents are averaging just 62.5 points over the last four games.
The Tigers enter Saturday’s game with a 4-9 mark and are looking for their first Big West Conference win of the season following losses to Cal State Fullerton (78-73) and UC Irvine (73-69).
Pacific boasts just one player scoring in double figures on the year in Lorenzo McCloud at 10.6 per game. As a team, they are shooting just 39.6 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from three-point range and 66.5 percent from the free throw line.
The opposition is outscoring the Tigers an average of 7.3 points per game thanks to 45.0 percent shooting from the field and 37.8 percent from long distance.
Pacific owns the all-time series record over the Highlanders, 17-3, which includes a 10-1 mark at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The Tigers won both meeting between the clubs last season. UCR’s most recent victory over Pacific, was also its first road win ever over the Tigers: a 62-53 victory on February 25, 2010.
