Second-Half Goal Gives UC Davis 1-0 Victory Over Men's Soccer
10/5/2012 6:03:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Davis, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team was 5-0 away from the friendly confines of the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium heading into the weekend, but it was UC Davis picking up a goal in the second half Friday evening on their way to a 1-0 win over the Highlanders (Box Score).
UC Davis (4-4-4, 2-1-0) outshot UC Riverside 10-5 in the first half, but it wasn't until the 61st minute of play that Kevin Schulte broke the scoreless tie with a volley off of an indirect free kick.
The Highlanders (8-3-0, 1-2-0) were unable to connect on the equalizer, as they lost for the third time in four matches since starting the season 7-0-0.
The close score should not have been a surprise as 14 of the 15 meetings between the clubs have been decided by one goal or less. UC Riverside has never won at Aggie Soccer Field in eight tries.
UCR remains on the road this weekend as the Highlanders travel to Sacramento State on Sunday for a 1 pm PT kickoff against the Hornets.
