Anchorage, AK—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team takes on the host Seawolves of Alaska Anchorage Friday afternoon in the second game of the 2012 CARRS/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout for both squads.
The Highlanders nearly erased a 21-point deficit Wednesday night against Northeastern, cutting the lead to five with just over a minute to go, but the Huskies were able to pull out the 61-52 win. Freshman Josh Fox led UC Riverside with 14 points and six rebounds in the loss, and is the Highlanders leading scorer at 12.2 points per game. Three other members of the squad—Robert Smith (9.6), Chris Patton (9.3) and Chris Harriel (9.2)—are averaging better than nine points per game.
The Seawolves lost their first game of the season Wednesday evening in a 74-60 defeat at the hands of the Belmont Bruins. Guard Mike MacKelvie scored a career-high 14 points for Alaska Anchorage while center Liam Gibcus scored 13.
Kyle Fossman is the Seawolves leading scorer averaging 15.6 points per game, while Teancum Stafford chips in with 12.6 per contest.
This is the first-ever meeting between UC Riverside and Alaska Anchorage.
