Men's Basketball Returns Home For Tuesday Night Meeting With Whittier College Poets

Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team returns home Tuesday for just the fourth time in 11 games this season as they welcome the Whittier College Poets to the SRC Arena for a 7 pm PT tip.
The Highlanders will be looking to get their offense in gear as they are averaging 79 points in their two victories this season, but just 49.1 points in losses.
Junior Chris Harriel continues to pace UCR in scoring, averaging 10.8 points per game, followed by junior Chris Patton's 9.3 points, freshman Josh Fox's 9.0 and senior Robert Smith's 8.3.
Whittier College is a member of the Division III Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They bring a two-game winning streak into Tuesday’s game following a 92-80 victory over Clarke University last night. Phillip Thomas scored 22 points off the bench to lead the Poets while Chris Barnes-Williams added 21.
Barnes-Williams is Whittier’s leading scorer averaging 18.0 points per game. Four other Poets average in double figures—Aaron Fernandez (11.9), Thomas (11.8), Willie Mebane (11.6) and Tyree Landrum (11.4).
UC Riverside and Whittier faced off against one another on 12 occasions during the Highlanders pre-Division I days with UCR owning a 7-5 advantage. The Poets are on a two-game winning streak against the Highlanders, picking up a 67-64 overtime win on December 11, 1976 and a 91-72 victory on December 9, 1977.
