MEET THE NEWCOMERS: Men's Basketball Player Taylor Johns
12/4/2012 10:08:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Riverside—After missing the first seven games of the year with an injury, UC Riverside Men's Basketball player Taylor Johns made his long-awaited debut for the Highlanders over the weekend grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds in UCR's win over Northern Colorado.
He joined the Highlanders after a Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep career that saw him earn three all-league selections and an all-state honor. Playing alongside current teammate Josh Fox, Johns helped SCHP improve from 14 to 23 to 28 wins over his three seasons, advancing to the state championship game his senior year.
Johns won the San Francisco All-Star Game Dunk Contest as a senior, and was the SHCP student-athlete of the year that same season.
Johns volunteered at the local Boys and Girls Club while in high school, and enjoys watching SpongeBob Squarepants, ESPN and the Boondocks on television.
