Lwin Pitches Complete Game For Softball In 6-3 Win Over Toledo

Fresno, CA - Amy Lwin pitched a complete game on Saturday morning for the UC Riverside softball team as they defeated Toledo 6-3 in the third game of the Fresno State Tournament.
Lwin gave up a single run in the first inning, and that score stayed the same until the fifth when the Highlanders (1-2) exploded for five runs.
Alaina Thomas singled to third base to start off the inning, and was sacrificed over to second from Yesenia Duenas' bunt. A single from Halle Luna put runners at the corners, and Kayla White's RBI single allowed Thomas to score, tying the game at 1-1.
Ariel Shore then singled to plate Luna, and Alexis Pickett had her turn at a single to score White as UCR took a 3-1 lead.
After a pitching change from Toledo, Jessica Vasser singled and advanced to second on an error, as both Shore and Pickett scored to lift the Highlanders to a 5-1 advantage.
UC Riverside added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Thomas led off with a triple and scored on Jojo Mendoza's single up the middle.
Toledo threatened in the last inning, however, plating two runs to cut the lead to 6-3, but Lwin forced a ground out and the Highlanders prevailed for their first victory of the season.
Lwin allowed three runs, only one earned, however, in all seven innings of work to pick up the win.
Thomas and Luna recorded two hits apiece, while six other players had one hit each.
UC Riverside remains at the Fresno State Tournament to play the host Bulldogs at 2:00 pm later today.
