Box Score - Cal State Fullerton 66, UC Riverside 43
Fullerton, CA - The UC Riverside women's basketball team entered Wednesday's Big West Conference match-up at Cal State Fullerton looking to snap a four-game skid, but hot shooting from the Titans late in the second period made the difference as the Highlanders fell 66-43.
UC Riverside drops to 5-22 overall and 3-11 in league play, while the Titans improve to 10-16, 3-10.
Jessica Ogunnorin scored a career-high 17 points for the Highlanders, while three Titans players recorded double-digit scoring efforts.
UC Riverside started the game cold, hitting 1-for-7 initially, and trailed 11-4 at the first media timeout. Still down eight, 16-8, at the 7:44 mark, UCR committed four turnovers and were outscored 11-2 as the Titans' lead grew to 27-10, three minutes and 33 seconds later.
The Highlanders put on a spurt late in the half, however, scoring six straight points while forcing two Fullerton turnovers to cut the advantage to 11, 27-16, entering the break.
UC Riverside continued its scoring as two free throws from Taylor Wallace a minute and a half into the second period closed the margin to single-digits, 27-18--the first time since the 6:34 mark of the first half.
The Highlanders got the lead down to eight on multiple occasions over the next few minutes, but each time the Titans countered with a bucket to push their advantage back to double-figures.
With UCR trailing by three possessions, 46-37, with 8:27 left in the game, Cal State Fullerton hit three three-pointers to go up by 16, 55-39, with just over six minutes remaining. The Titans would connect on two more three-pointers as the lead grew above 20 to conclude the game.
After hitting just 1-of-8 from beyond the arc in the first half, CSF hit 7-for-11 in the second period, for a clip of 63.6 percent. UC Riverside also committed 20 turnovers, which the Titans converted for 22 points.
The Highlanders now break from conference play with a Sunday, February 26 game at Seattle. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 pm PT in Seattle, WA.
