Career-High 17 From Shearry Lifts UCR Past UC Davis, 59-54

Riverside—Three players scored in double-figures led by a career-high 17 from BJ Shearry as the UC Riverside men's basketball team snapped a four-game skid, defeating UC Davis 59-54 at the Student Rec Center on Saturday evening. (Box Score).
Shearry also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Kevin Bradshaw added 12 points and Robert Smith had 11 for the Highlanders (11-12, 5-5).
UC Riverside was without the services of leading scorer Phil Martin, who missed the game due to personal reasons. Austin Quick, fresh off his career-high 17 points performance vs. Pacific, got the start in Martin's place.
The teams' traded buckets in the early going until UC Davis (1-21, 0-10) turned a 7-7 tie into an 18-9 advantage at the 11:56 mark. The Highlanders responded with a run of their own, outscoring the Aggies 14-0 to take a 23-18 lead wih 6:11 left in the half.
UCD would tie the game at 25, though, and take a 28-26 lead into the break.
In the second period, the Aggies went up by six points after 1:35 of play, and still led by five at the 15:24 mark.
The Highlanders continously chipped away at the lead, and went up 39-38 after a Shearry jumper with 11:58 remaining. UCR pushed its advantage to five, but UC Davis rallied to cut the lead to one, 47-46, after a Josh Ritchart three-pointer with just under five minutes left in the game.
The score stayed the same until the 2:08 mark when Bradshaw completed a three-point play, and Smith found Shearry for an alley-oop as UCR went up by six, 52-46.
The Highlanders advantage went as high as eight points on three different occasions, the last with 12 seconds remaining, but a free throw from Tyrell Corbin with nine seconds, and a jumper at the buzzer from Tyler Les made the final score 59-54.
The Highlanders hit the road this week for games at Cal Poly on Thursday, February 9 and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, February 11.
