Riverside—UC Riverside's 12-game baseball homestand continues this week as the Highlanders host UNLV for a pair of mid-week games, Tuesday at 6 pm PT, and Wednesday at 3 pm.
UCR (10-18) is looking to end a slide that has seen it on the short end of the score in nine of its last 12 games. Four of those losses were by just one run, and two more were by just two runs.
The Highlanders pitching has kept them in the majority of games this season with the team posting an ERA of 3.75. Their top two starters, Eddie Orozco (4-4, 2.15) and Dylan Stuart (4-3, 3.32) also boast strikeout-to-walk ratios of four-to-one or better.
Trevor Frank (0-5, 4.91) will start Tuesday evening's game with Wednesday's starter as yet to be determined.
UNLV (17-19) comes into the week having won three of its last four games including a 20-1 victory over Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday, but the Rebels have struggled in conference play posting a 2-10 mark in the Mountain West.
UNLV plays in one of the best hitters parks in the country, and they have the offensive numbers to back it up. Six regulars boast batting averages of .300 or better, and as a team UNLV has a slash line of .303/.391/.430.
Erick Fedde (3-3, 2.86) and Zak Quails (4-2, 3.48) are the Rebels' top two starters, but UNLV has struggled to find adequate pitching during its mid-week games. John Richy (2-0, 5.31) will get the nod on Tuesday, while Scott Dysinger (0-0, 0.00) takes to the mound on Wednesday.
The Highlanders return to conference play this weekend, hosting the Aggies of UC Davis in a three-game series beginning Friday evening at 6 pm.
