Ek Ties For 8th Individually As Women's Golf Finishes 7th At BWC Championship

San Luis Obispo, CA—UC Riverside's Amelia Ek carded a 73 in the final round on Tuesday at the 2012 Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship, finishing in a tie for 8th place with a 229 total.
Ek was nine strokes behind the winner, UC Davis' Bev Vatananugulkit, who finished with a three-round 220. The Aggies also claimed the team championship for the third consecutive season, winning by 13 strokes over UC Irvine, 989 to 911.
UC Davis is the fourth program in Big West women's golf history to win at least three straight championships. San Jose State captured 10 straight titles from 1987-96 and New Mexico State followed from 1997-2000. UC Irvine won three straight titles spanning 2005-08.
As a team, the Highlanders saved their best round for last, carding a 306 in the final round, but finished in seventh place out of seven teams with a three-day total of 950.
After Ek's eighth place finish, freshmen Savannah Vilaubi (80-79-76) and Brittani Ferraro (77-78-80) tied for 21st place with identical 235 scores.
Christy Fogerty lowered her score by 10 shots between the second and third rounds, shooting 77 on Tuesday to finish 33rd with a 251. Denyse Neville placed 35th with scores of 87-88-82 for a 257 total.
