Davis, CA—The UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team remains on the road this weekend as the Highlanders travel to UC Davis Saturday for a 7 pm PT tip against the Aggies.
UCR’s string of close games continued on Thursday night as the Highlanders whittled a 15-point second half lead down to one with just over three minutes to play at Pacific, but the Tigers escaped with the five-point win. Three of UC Riverside’s last six games have been decided by five points or less, and another went into overtime.
Chris Patton continued to dominate Big West post players with a game-high 17 points on seven of nine shooting from the floor against the Tigers. It was the eighth time in nine games that The General has scored in double figures, and he leads the Big West in field goal percentage in conference games at an Artis Gilmoresque 69.7 percent.
UC Davis is coming off of a 95-88 loss at home Thursday to Cal State Fullerton which dropped them a game below .500 in the Big West play.
The Aggies average 72.9 points per game, but allow 74.6. Corey Hawkins leads the Big West scoring at a 19.4 points per game clip thanks in part to a league-leading 92.0 percent shooting percentage (104 of 113) at the line.
Ryan Sypkens is second on the squad averaging 14.1 points per game as he ranks first in the conference in made three pointers (67) and second in three-point shooting percentage (48.2).
J.T. Adenrele rounds out the trio of double-digit Aggies scorers at 12.1 points per game. Adenrele is second in the conference in field goal percentage making 59.0 percent (82 of 139) of his shots from the floor.
The Highlanders are 29-26 all-time against UC Davis and have won three straight over the Aggies.
