Honolulu, HI—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team is looking to move above .500 in Big West Conference play this Saturday with a 9 pm PT tip at front-running Hawai'i.
The Highlanders evened their record at 1-1 on Thursday with a come-from-behind, 65-64 win at Cal State Northridge. Chris Patton scored the final seven points of the game as UCR erased a four-point deficit with 33.2 seconds to to pull off the victory (box score/recap/audio highlights/video of game-winning). It was also the Highlanders first road win of the season.
Patton led the Highlanders with 19 points on the night, and has now scored in double figures in four straight games. His 10.8 points per game scoring average paces the squad followed closely by Chris Harriel's 10.7 points per game.
Hawai'i opened the conference season with a pair of close home wins taking a 74-71 win over the Matadors last Saturday, and a 90-88 decision over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday.
The Rainbow Warriors boast four players who average double digits in the scoring column: Christian Standhardinger (15.6 ppg), Vander Joaquim (14.6), Isaac Fotu (11.4) and BRandon Spearman (10.6). Hawai'i is turnover prone, however, as they average 16.2 miscues per game.
The Highlanders are 1-1 all-time against the Rainbow Warriors, winning the ESPN BracketBusters game between the squads, 79-62, on February 23, 2008 (box score) and dropping the return game, 56-46, on December 23, 2008 (box score/recap).
