Box Score - Hawai'i 65, UC Riverside 50
Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team looked to pick up its first win in Big West play Saturday evening, but offensive struggles plagued them in a 65-50 loss to Hawai'i at the SRC Arena.
The Highlanders fall to 7-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the Wahine improve to 5-8, 1-1.
Hawai'i quickly took command of the game early in the first period, turning a 4-4 tie into a 15-5 lead with 9:06 left in the half. The advantage grew as high as 11, but Tre'Shonti Nottingham scored the final seven points of the half for UCR as the lead was cut to three, 26-23, entering the break.
The Highlanders opened the second half taking a 27-26 lead after two Kiara Harewood free throws, but the Rainbow Wahine scored on the next possession and never looked back, opening a double-digit margin, 37-27, with 13:19 remaining.
UC Riverside got as close as six points, 40-34, with 11:06 to go, but Hawai'i scored the next six consecutive, and the Highlanders never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
UCR hit 34.8 percent from the field for the game, but just 16.7 percent from beyond the arc. Hawai'i shot 46.7 percent from the floor in the second half, for a 40.0 percent game total.
Turnovers also hurt the Highlanders, as they miscued 20 times, while the Wahine turned the ball over on just nine occasions.
Brittany Crain tied for the game-high with 14 points, while Nottingham added 13. Shawna-Lei Kuehu led Hawai'i with 14 points, while Kamilah Martin had 13, and Vicky Tagalicod had 11.
