Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team was looking to move to .500 in conference play Sunday afternoon, but UC Davis scored single goals in each period en route to a 2-0 victory (Box Score)
The Aggies controlled the pace in the first half outshooting the Highlanders 10-2. They picked up their first score in the 14th minute when Alex Henry dumped the ball down to the left hand corner to Ryan Gross, and Gross found Matt Wiesenfarth in the right side of the box. UC Riverside goalkeeper Ashkan Khosravi  got his hand on the ball, but was unable to come up with the save.
Â
The Highlanders offense appeared rejuvenated in the second, outshooting UC Davis 9-6 after the intermission, but The Aggies made it a 2-0 match in the 60 th minute. Eric Budniewski and Wiesenfarth combined to find Matt Sheldon in the UCR box for his fourth score of the season.
Â
UC Riverside thought it had cut the lead in half late in the second, but their goal was pulled off the board due to an offside call.
The Highlanders have just one match this week—a Saturday, October 18 meeting with nationally-ranked Cal State Northridge. Kick off at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 pm PT
