San Jose, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team continues its six-game road swing to open the 2013-14 season this Friday, November 15 with a 7 pm PT match at San Jose State. On Sunday, the Highlanders then head to Santa Clara for a 2 pm tip against the Broncos.
The Highlanders opened the season this past weekend with a pair of losses at the Hawkeye Challenge against teams that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago—#14 Dayton and Iowa. Brittany Crain was named to the Hawkeye Challenge All-Tournament Team after averaging 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds a game.
San Jose State brings a 2-0 record into Friday's game following wins over San Francisco State and Santa Clara. Ta'Rea Cunnigan paces five Spartans players in double-digit scoring averaging 23.0 ppg.
The Broncos opened the season dropping contests to UNLV and SJSU by an average of 5.5 points. Nici Gilday leads the SCU offense scoring 23.5 points per game.
UC Riverside is 1-1 all-time against Santa Clara, but the teams haven't met since the late 1970s (view all-time results). Friday's game against San Jose State will be the first in program history.
