Cunningham led the Highlanders in goals this season with four, and none were more crucial than the pair she scored on the last day of the regular season in UC Riverside's 2-1 victory over Long Beach State. The win over the 49ers propelled UCR into the three seed for the Big West Conference Tournament which begins Thursday on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. The Highlanders take on two seed UC Irvine at 5:05 pm while the number one seed, Cal Poly, squares off against the Titans at 7:35 pm.
Arellano tied Cunningham for the team lead in points with eight as she scored three goals and recorded two assists in her freshman campaign. Arellano was also named to the Big West All-Freshman Team.
Head Coach Nat Gonzalez earned Big West Coach of the Year honors, as he guided UC Riverside to its first conference tournament appearance since the 2005 season.
Gonzalez becomes the third UC Riverside Soccer coach to earn coach of the year honors joining Veronica O'Brien, who was the Women's Coach of the Year in 2005, and Junior Gonzalez (Nat's cousin), who was named Men's Coach of the Year in 2011.
