Men's Basketball Hosts Two Games Before Breaking For The Holidays

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team returns home this week for a pair of home games before taking a break for the holidays. UIC travels to the Inland Empire for a Friday, December 20 meeting with the Highlanders, and Northern Illinois heads to the SRC Arena on Sunday, December 22.
UCR dropped a pair of road games over the weekend including a 63-60 loss at Northern Colorado that saw the Highlanders go scoreless over the final 3:12 of the game. Chris Patton scored 17 points, grabbed eight boards and blocked four shots in the loss.
Patton is averaging13.0 points and 7.1 rebounds on the season, while teammate Taylor Johns leads UC Riverside with 14.7 points and 7.7 rebounds (box score/recap).
UIC is 5-6 entering the weekend following a pair of recent wins at Southeast Missouri (75-69) and vs. Purdue Calumet (86-61). The Flames averages 74.0 points on the season, but has struggled on the defensive end of the floor. Flames opponents are averaging 75.5 points per game while making 47.4 percent of their field goal attempts and 38.7 percent of their three-pointers.
Kelsey Barlow and Marc Brown lead the UIC offense averaging 16.3 and 13.3 points respectively. Nobody else on the squad averages more than 7.5 points per game, but the Flames have five players who sore between 5.9 and 7.5 points.
UC Riverside and UIC met for the first time last season as the Flames picked up a 59-52 win at the UIC Pavilion (box score/recap).
Northern Illinois is 4-5 on the easo folowing a 55-49 win at Loyola-Chicago on Wednesday. The Huskies rely on their defense to win games as they are holding opponents to 64.3 points per game, 40.8 percent shooting from the field and 29.4 percent shooting from three-point range.
NIU has just one double-figure scorer in Darrell Bowie (10.3), but five other Huskies are averaging between 6.1 and 8.8 points per game.
This is the first meeting between the Highlanders and the Huskies.
