San Diego—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team plays the Big 12's Kansas State in the consolation game of the San Diego Surf & Slam Tournament on Monday, December 30 at 3:30 pm PT at Viejas Arena.
In the first game of the tournament, the Highlanders dropped a one-point, 58-57 decision to the host Aztecs (box score/recap), while K-State fell to North Carolina State, 77-60.
UC Riverside had four players score in double-figures in its loss to San Diego State, but were without the services of leading scorer Brittany Crain due to injury. Crain paces the squad offensively with 18.9 ppg, while Natasha Hadley averages 12.1, Simone DeCoud scores 11.0, and Annelise Ito completes the quartet of double-digit scorers with 10.8 points per game.
Kansas State's Leticia Romero is the team's leading scorer at 12.3 ppg, while the next two players average between 8.9 and 9.5 points. K-State is 5-5 overall this season but has dropped two straight following a three-game winning streak. Among those wins was a 73-64 victory over fellow Big West Conference foe UC Santa Barbara on December 15.
This will be first meeting between UCR and the Wildcats in program history.
