Women's Basketball Moves Above .500 With 85-66 Win Over Bakersfield

Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team (4-3) moved above .500 for the first time this season Tuesday evening with an 85-66 victory over Bakersfield (2-4) at the SRC Arena (Box Score).
The Highlanders enjoyed a season-high 57.8 percent shooting from the field while limiting the Runners to a mere 28 percent.
Natasha Hadley scored 21 points to lead UCR while Brittany Crain added 17 and Annelise Ito had 14. Tyonna Outland scored a game-high 22 points for CSUB.
With UCR leading 10-7 at the 16:21 mark in the first half, the Runners used a 7-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game, 14-10, with 13:48 on the clock. The Highlanders responded with a run of their own, scoring six straight on jumpers from Crain, Jamila Williams, and Ito to go up 16-14 at the 11:00 minute mark.
Bakersfield's Outland converted on a layup 30 seconds later to tie the score at 16, but UC Riverside went on a 13-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 13-point advantage, 29-16. CSUB scored four unanswered to cut the lead to single-digits, 29-20, with 6:28 remaining in the period, but UCR closed out the half scoring 13 of the final 17 points for a 42-24 advantage.
UC Riverside pushed its lead to 27 points on two occasions early in the second half, the last at 56-29 with 14:30 to go. CSUB used a 7-0 run to close the gap to 20, 56-36, five minutes later, but the Highlanders scored five straight as the lead went back to 25.
The Runners continued to chip away, however, and closed to 14 on two occasions, the last at 77-63 with 2:01 to go. UC Riverside responded down the stretch, though, scoring eight of the final 11 points for the 19-point victory.
The Highlanders now remain at home hosting Pepperdine on Friday, December 6 at 7 pm PT at the SRC Arena in Riverside.
