Irvine, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team will try to end a five-game losing streak this Wednesday as they take on the team that was the victim of their last win, UC Irvine. The Highlanders upended the Anteaters, 69-58, back on January 19 (box score/recap).
On Saturday against Cal State Fullerton, UCR got a career performance out of Chris Patton who scored 36 points on 14 of 16 shooting from the field, but the Highlanders were unable to hold on to an 11-point second half lead, falling to the Titans, 79-67 (box score/recap). The 36 points tied Patton for sixth place on UC Riverside's single-game scoring charts, and the 14 made field goals were the third highest total in Highlanders history.
Patton leads the Highlanders in scoring (13.5 ppg) and field goal percentage (.566) while ranking 14th and third in the conference respectively in those categories. In Big West Conference games only, he is averaging 16.9 points per game (9th) and connecting on 69.4 percent of his field goal percentage (1st).
The Anteaters were 4-2 in conference prior to their mid-January loss to the Highlanders, and have dropped three of five since then to fall into fifth place in the Big West. However, their two most recent loses, to Cal State Northridge and Hawai'i, came on the road. At home, UC Irvine is 8-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play.
Daman Starring leads the 'Eaters in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game. He ranks fifth in the conference in three-point shooting connecting on 42.2 percent of his shots from long distance on the year. Five other members of the team average between 7.5 and 9.6 points per game—Chris McNealy (9.6), Alex Young (9.0), Adam Folker (8.9), Michael Wilder (7.7) and Will Davis II (7.5).
The Highlanders are 23-29 all-time against UC Irvine with wins in each of the past two games, and six of the last seven (view all-time results).
