Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team will Play 4Kay on Thursday, February 14 hosting UC Irvine at 7 pm PT at the SRC Arena in the team's Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
The Highlanders will honor UCR alum and breast cancer survivor, Vivian Chavez. Chavez will receive a signed basketball from the UC Riverside Team, and will participate as an honorary coach during the game.
"Cancer doesn’t discriminate," Chavez stated. "It can affect anyone and at any time. Get to know your body, and don’t hesitate to seek your doctor if you have any doubts. Fortunately, with early detection, there is a greater success rate for treatments, more treatment options, and hope.
"Thanks to the selfless efforts of dedicated people and organizations bringing awareness and education to our communities, people young and old can find the support when we need it most."
The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team will wear pink uniforms in honor of breast cancer awareness. The Athletics Department will be giving out pink wristbands, stickers, and buy-one-get-one-free coupons from Qdoba. Additionally, Breast Cancer Awareness 365 and the Pink Ribbon Place will be on site with information booths.
The Highlanders are coming off of a 64-45 win at Cal State Fullerton this past Saturday (box score/recap), improving their overall record to 11-10 and league record to 4-6.
After starting Big West play with an 0-8 record, UC Irvine has won two of its last three games (70-57 at UC Davis on February 2; 64-52 over Hawai'i on February 9).
UCR defeated the Anteaters in the teams' previous meeting this season, 68-67, on January 19 (box score/recap). The Highlanders own the all-time series mark against UCI, 30-14 (view all-time results).
Due to construction at the Student Recreation Center, fans will be redirected via Linden Street to enter the SRC Arena.
