Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team returns home this week for a Wednesday, February 20 meeting with UC Santa Barbara. TIp is slated for 7 pm PT.
The Highlanders enter the week trying to end a seven-game losing streak. The team's most recent defeat was a 40-point loss at Long Beach State on Saturday afternoon. After shooting better than 50 percent from the floor in seven of 10 games, UCR has made just 27.2 percent (28 of 103) of its shots over the past two games.
Chris Patton remains the Highlanders leading scorer averaging 12.8 points, but he has scored just 11 points over the last two contests. Chris Harriel is also averaging double figures in scoring at 10.5 points per game.
UC Santa Barbara is struggling through its most difficult campaign since the 2004-05 season. That was the last time the Gauchos failed to post a winning record, and they are 8-15 overall this year with six games remaining in the regular season. After splitting its first six games in Big West play, UC Santa Barbara has dropped six of its last seven.
Alan Williams is UCSB's leading scorer averaging 17.2 points per game. He ranks first in the conference in rebounding (9.9), sixth in field goal percentage (.512), and second in blocked shots (42).
This is the first meeting of the year between the Gauchos and Highlanders. UCR is 6-25 all-time against UC Santa Barbara. The teams split their two meetings a year ago, with the Highlanders winning a 79-70 overtime decision at home (box score/recap), and the Gauchos picking up a 60-52 win at the Thunderdome (box score/recap).
