Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team was swept by #31 UC Irvine Friday afternoon in Big West Conference action at Andulka Park.
In doubles, the Highlanders were competitive in two of the three matches. UCR's top duo of Jamie and Taylor Raney took UCI's #66th-ranked pair to an 8-5 decision before losing, while Kat Saltarelli and Kate Bergeson likewise dropped an 8-5 match at number three.
In singles, though, the Anteaters proved too strong winning five of the six matches in straight sets.
At number one, Jamie Raney rallied back from a 6-0 first set loss to win 7-6 in the second set, and almost upset No. 92 Kristina Smith before falling 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
"UCI is the best team in the Big West," Head Coach Mark Henry stated. "It was a great match by Jamie Raney even though she didn't come out with the win."
The Highlanders now prepare for a league match against Cal Poly this Sunday, April 14 starting at 10:30 am PT at Andulka Park in Riverside.
